I was browsing through movie news, and it looks like X3 might be the last X-Men movie to be made. Tom Rothman, the head of Fox Studio had this to say….
X-Men: The Last Stand, it’s is the conclusion of this trilogy. These three movies work as a trilogy. These characters in this relationship, it’s the culminaton of that saga. It’s the culmination and the resolution of those relationships laid out in the first two movies. That doesn’t mean never, I would ever say never again but I will say that this brings that saga to an end. It’s quite the way the last Lord of the Rings, Return of the King, brought that trilogy to a conclusion in terms of those characters, that’s what this movie does. It goes all the way back to the first one and rounds off and completes that three part story.
Who knows though, he says there won’t be another, but if this one makes enough money I doubt they’d turn down the right script for a fourth. Can’t wait to see X3 this summer. It’ll be good to complete the story that has been started with the first 2.
Here’s the full interview with Tim Rothman.

To look forward to this movie is to look forward to having a sureiken thrown into your eye. Fox should’ve waited, or started earlier instead of dragging out the preproduction process, and had Singer finish his trilogy. But they got greedy, and stupid.

Yeah, there is still plans for a Wolverine spinoff and possibly a couple of others, but as far as plans for the whole crew being reunited, this is supposed to be the last.

Last I heard, that Wolverine spin-off movie was still a go with possibility of sequels as well. So I’m betting this is far from the last film.
And as far as all the new characters go, save for a bulk of the new Brotherhood, most of the X-Men had at least cameos in the last two movies; so I think the films will flow together pretty well as far as characters go. Well, so long as you ignore the fact that a few of the characters in X3 that had cameos in X-Men and X2 were played by different actors (this is Shadowcat’s third actress).

I’m wondering how, with all the characters they’re introducing in the 3rd installment, they can have any semblance of a coherent story without being distracted by showing off the new guys. But I like Ratner’s take on Red Dragon and so I’m hoping this will not suck.

I dont understand the obsesion executives have with trilogies these days.
At the same time, I am not sure how X-Men can just ‘wrap up’ in one more movie. With just teasers of characters like Kitty and Colossus, there is a lot more to be explored.
